"Bone Hunt" or "Assemble the Skeleton" : Halloween Scavenger Hunt
By M Ryan Taylor on Aug 20, 2008 | In Party Games | Send feedback »
Thanks to "cerinad", a user on Halloween Forum, for this idea. I’ve tweaked it a bit.
You’ll need:
- 2 complete skeletons that come apart.
- A large home or yard.
To play:
- Hide the bones from the two skeletons across your yard or throughout your home.
- Divide your guests into two teams and set them loose trying to assemble a complete skeleton.
- If a team finds more than one of the same bone, tell them to take the bone back where they found it.
- The first team to assemble their complete skeleton wins.
Variations
- Give each team the skull of their skeleton and explain that they will need to complete the skeleton.
- Color code your two skeletons or mark them somehow so that the parts are not interchangeable.
9 Square Monster Search
By M Ryan Taylor on Aug 12, 2008 | In Party Games | 2 feedbacks »
This is a simple puzzle game that uses words of 9 letters. The letters from the word are arranged in a square of 9 boxes in word order, but not starting in the first square. You can enjoy these puzzles on your own, or use them in a party game.
To play in a party, print 3 or more of the following puzzles and give a copy to each of your guests:
- 9SquareMonsterSearch1.pdf
- 9SquareMonsterSearch2.pdf
- 9SquareMonsterSearch3.pdf
- 9SquareMonsterSearch4.pdf
- 9SquareMonsterSearch5.pdf
Whoever solves all of the puzzles in the quickest amount of time gets a prize.
Alternately you could place these puzzles on a chalkboard if you’d like to save paper.
Try making your own puzzles, but be warned: 9 letter words aren’t all that common. You’ll notice each of the words in the puzzles I’ve put above are pluralized.
Halloween Reverse Apple Bobbing

Traditional apple-bobbing is a mess. Try this alternative that is just as difficult.
- Tie an apple to a string and tie the string to a rod (make three to five of these).
- Non-contestants hold this apparatus out still so the apple is suspended in mid-air while the contestants try to take a bite out of the apple.
- The first one to get a bite wins.
- Time them if you plan on doing multiple rounds.
I’ve seen this done, but it is hard. Want something easier? Try tying donuts on to the string. First one to finish the donut wins. The donut version can pair up two members of the opposite gender on the same donut (as a team) to make things more interesting. ;-)
