Traditional apple-bobbing is a mess. Try this alternative that is just as difficult.

• Tie an apple to a string and tie the string to a rod (make three to five of these).
• Non-contestants hold this apparatus out still so the apple is suspended in mid-air while the contestants try to take a bite out of the apple.
• The first one to get a bite wins.
• Time them if you plan on doing multiple rounds.

I’ve seen this done, but it is hard. Want something easier? Try tying donuts on to the string. First one to finish the donut wins. The donut version can pair up two members of the opposite gender on the same donut (as a team) to make things more interesting. ;-)
