Interview: Jan Pierce's Vintage Halloween Folk Art
By M Ryan Taylor on Oct 14, 2009 | In Halloween Artists
Halloween art and inspiration from Jan Pierce of Moonhallow Vintage Halloween Folk Art.
13: I read about your start with painting pumpkins and working at your parent’s antique store. What inspires you today?
JP: I draw alot of inspiration from the traditional Halloween images of the early 1900’s. I especially like to create creepy grizzled witches.

13: What’s your favorite Halloween tradition?
JP: My favorite Halloween tradition is the costume selection. Even when I was a kid, the selection of the costume was of utmost importance. It began the whole Halloween process and I looked forward to making my costume each year.

13: How do you celebrate the big day?
JP: I celebrate the big day everyday now… we have a Halloween tree that stays up year round. My personal collection of vintage Halloween items keeps the spirit going. We haunt the yard and on Halloween night, we hand out lots of candy to the trick or treaters.

13: Do you have a favorite costume?
JP: My favorite costume now is a witch. My favorite costume from when I was a kid was a Rubik’s Cube.
13: Any messages for the trick or treaters out there?
JP: Be safe! Have fun! Make your own costume!
