Grandma Taylor's BOOK-WITCH
Custom Search
The BOOK-WITCH is the absolute essence of old-style homemade Halloween crafts.
Materials needed:
- Reader’s Digest Magazine for body
- Black spray paint
- Black pipe cleaners for arms
- 2 small squares of black felt, one for cape, the other for hat
- Large round wooden bead for head
- Black yarn or moss for hair, or some other such thing
- Interesting twig for broom
- Glue
- Thin black ribbon
Procedure:
- Fan the Reader’s Digest Magazine to unloose the pages. Then fold from the upper right hand tip into the center of the magazine. Crease each page crisply until all pages have been folded.
- Glue front and back pages together, then stand and fan the pages out into a circle with the large flat side down and the pointy side on top. Adjust the pages so that they are evenly distributed all the way around.
- Place on mat of newspaper and spray paint black in well-ventilated area. Let dry completely. Spray again if any spots are scantily covered.
- Snip tip of point and glue bead there. Then glue pipe cleaners for arms.
- Cut black yarn to desired lengths and glue in proper place around bead leaving space for face.
- Construct a cape from one piece of black felt and the hat from the other. Glue two small black ribbons onto the cape and tie around neck. Glue hat on bead. Glue broom in pipe cleaner hand.

I love your site! Thank you for posting all these wonderful ideas for us Halloween fanatics. Do you have a picture of what this BOOK WITCH is supposed to look like?

I don't have a picture right now. We had one of these my mum made when I was a kid and I got the instructions from her, but it has long since dissapeared. I hope to make one again someday to replace it.
