This is the second in my Masks series of etchings. The poem reads:
- A Halloween Wish:
I Wish you May
I Wish you Might
Be the Thing
You Wish Tonight
I’ve always thought of the Frankenstein monster as a sad creature who would have rather have been a sympathetic, loveable bunny. I think that’s true whether you look at the old movies with "the Uncanny" Boris Karloff, or you look at the original book by Mary Shelley.
If you look closely you can see Dr. Frankenstein in the picture as well . . .
Happy Halloween!

Even though the Bride is only featured for a few minutes at the end of "Bride of Frankenstein," she has become one of those iconic images that most people will recognize (like the Frankenstein monster itself). My reaction to her in the movie (she never gets completed in the book), is "poor thing, what a way to wake up." You can sympathize with her and the monster’s loneliness. Kind of gut wrenching actually. We’ve all been there, in each of these positions; either the rejected or the rejector. That’s one reason I think that even with the camp, this old film still resonates and similar beauty and the beast fables always will.
I was experimenting with a set of gray to white pencils in this drawing. I used a fine tip black felt pen for details.
Happy Halloween!
