Spider and Fly 1

The Spider and Fly icon is pretty old. I remember a lot of cartoons I watched as a kid incorporated it, from Disney’s Silly Symphonies to little cameos in other character’s cartoons. Is this to get kids used to the idea that death happens? Hmm . . . or is it that we want the fly to escape his destiny? It isn’t just in old cartoons either, fairly recent animated films have used it as well - "The Emporer’s New Groove" comes to mind.
